For as long as she can remember, Omkara (Lauren
Piazza) has been singing and playing the piano. She began taking piano
lessons and composing piano music at a young age, and also sang in a
choir for the majority of her childhood.
Omkara's love of Kirtan and Sanskrit chanting began when she heard a
chant by Kirtan singer, Krishna Das, playing during a yoga class in
Boston in 2005.
In 2006, Omkara went to India and stayed for five months. By
grace, Omkara was drawn to visit the town of Tiruvannamalai -- home of
the holy mountain
Arunachala, and the great sage,
Ramana Maharshi -- in Southeast India. It was there that she met beloved teacher,
Mooji.
In 2008, Omkara attended a 1-year Certification Program on Sound, Voice, and Music Healing at California Institute for Integral Studies in San Francisco. Now, Omkara continues to compose music -- a fusion of World, New Age, and Minimalism, and often uses Sanskrit mantras in her songs. She released her first CD --
From the Silence in October 2008, and has recently released a new CD,
'Let Nothing Remain'. Both CDs are available on the internet and though this website.
